Table of Contents
1. Darken Down your Evenings
It can be impossible to get through a work day without your phone or laptop, but once you’re home, finishing dinner, and taking a bath, try not to reach for your devices. All phones, tablets, and laptops emit blue light, which disrupts our production of adenosine and melatonin – two hormones that regulate the sleep-wake cycle. Avoiding unnatural light in the evening makes it easier to get carried away.
2. Set A Time Limit
Whether it’s 15 minutes at a time, 2 hours a day, or 1 hour in the evening, limiting the amount of time you use your devices is an excellent way to stay in control. It just takes a little will to know when enough is enough; watching the clock can be an incredible motivation to stop that aimless, endless scrolling!
3. Observe Sleep Hygiene
Besides going dark at night, you can do plenty of other things to promote good sleep hygiene. Most of it focuses on other things that pertain to your evenings apart from connecting to your digital devices! An excellent place to start is to exercise in the evening, eat the right foods, soak well and avoid stimulants.
4. Use The App To Track Usage
Use a digital detox app?! Have fun with us! Not all technology is bad for us, and some great apps help us avoid using our phones too much. Whether it’s temporarily blocking apps, limiting overall screen usage, locking your screen during certain hours, or simply monitoring how much time you spend on your phone, apps have the potential to be both friend and foe!
5. Adjust Phone Settings
Phones remained designed to be as addictive as possible – with bright lights, familiar audio alerts, and visual alerts that can grab our attention if we’re not careful. The good news is that by turning off these stimulating settings, your phone can be much less addicting and turn a fascinating display stand into a convenient, good old phone!
6. Go Back in Time
Okay, we’re not talking about chasing the hoop down the back lane with a stick! It’s more about the good old days and what was used instead of technology before it remained invented. So before the Kindle, there were books. Before smartphones, there were real cameras; before news apps, there were actual newspapers! You never know; you strength fall in love all over again with a traditional alarm clock, an essential cookbook, or a classic pen and paper!
7. Go Outside
We despair to think of healthy young people stuck inside watching boxes or aimlessly scrolling through social media when the whole world is outside! But we’re just gearing up for summer, and with more excellent weather on the way (all being well!), it’s a perfect opportunity to get out and explore the world. So, whether you walk near or far – reconnect with nature and embrace your inner wild child – climb a tree, go paddleboarding or play some first outdoor play!
8. Take a Digital Vacation
Spend your free time on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, or Netflix, and you can be anywhere in the world! Use your vacation as an opportunity to dust off your tools and indulge in as much rest as possible. The last thing you need on your hard-earned vacation is to remain bombarded with texts, emails, and notifications. Try leaving your phone in your accommodation or – even better – dare to leave it at home!
9. Make the day a Sacred Day
Choosing one day a week to avoid technology can help. Not only does it get you used to surviving without your digital vices. But it also gives you something completely different to do all day. Who knows what you’ll be able to achieve without constant digital distractions. You’ll soon find yourself ticking off things that have been unfinished for years!
10. Live in Real Life!
The maximum important message of this article is that if we put our technology aside, we can experience life in real time. Create memories with your mind, see the world with your own eyes, and build face-to-face relationships with real people! Maybe there’s an “app” for that, but if you ask us, there’s something unique about nature, communities, and our amazing planet that no screen can capture! It is something that technology cannot recreate.
Lastly, digital Habits is a platform of invention where creators share projects with consumers. The resulting products are not simply innovative prototypes. But they remain designed to be produced, used, and loved by consumers.
